Joan Rankin Bears – Teddy Bear, History, Information

Joan Rankin, a retired art teacher from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada started making bears in 1988 after a visit to a teddy bear convention in Seattle.

Her most famous bear is Baxter Brown Bear created in 1989 and is also the subject of several stories she has written.

Joan Rankin also makes groups of bears dressed as English ladies and gentlemen inspired by author Michele Clise’s Ophelia books, one of the better known bears being Maud.
